How many people would be interested in, by the hour hire of a fully equipped workshop for diy servicing and repairs ??
Out of 65 views, no one got anything to say about it.
I think it's a good idea, especially in this current climate.
One problem, you don't mention where this workshop is? (unless I have missed something??) which is pretty important! Someone from Newcastle won't travel to Cornwall for an afternoon or even a day of work on their car. Knowing where you are (where the workshop is) will help.
What facilities are there? 2 post/4 post lift? Welding equip? Air tools??
How much space is there? As an example, I have a 9ft tall 4x4 which won't fit in many single storey workshops (access through doors) or won't fit on some lifts due to clearance.
Cost? No matter how good the idea is, people will want to know cost. How much per hour - and does this include electricity, use of lift, welding etc...
Insurance? Are you insured? Might sound OTT - but in this day & age what with all the 'no win no fee' sue culture going on, are you covered if someone falls in the workshop and decides to sue? It's something that I hope would never happen, but you really have to be mega careful these days.
What may seem like a good idea and a generous offer could turn out to be a massive headache and huge expense to you which means your hourly rate is possibly pushed to a level where it becomes too expensive for people to take you up on the idea.
I really don't want to sound like I'm against it (I'm not at all) and I am sorry if you've already got all these angles covered, but I think the lack of response might be down to lack of further details on your behalf?
I wish you all the best with it and hope it works out. I am sure it will :)
I was after some feedback on the idea to start with. I Have a workshop lined up and have seen a couple of these in the uk and some in america and thought it was a good idea, just wanted the motoring publics opinion before taking the plunge. Thanks for your input. Much appreciated. Any more for anymore???
Ok, friend of mine had a full workshop including spraying facility. His idea was to make a few quid over the weekends and the odd evening without doing any work. Whilst this sounds fine, he never actually done it. The reason being the value of the tools should anything be stolen and the potential damage to welder, compressor etc with amature use or understanding. That said, if you're doing it to help people out that you can trust and make some beer money on the side it's ideal, and a kind offer to anyone local to you. So good luck, but keep an eye on your stuff.
