uva sandrail v8 on ebay it has all the right gear i think  and a stonking great v8...is it a members

Knighty - November 27, 2009 08:22 PM (GMT)
not a members to my knowledge, otherwise he would have advertised it under the correct name!.......looks like its going to sell this time, I seem to remember this being in exactly the same state about a year ago on ebay, in the same workshop covered in dust, looks like it only needs finishing off, its Q-plated for sure, so looks like it will be a safe bet for insurance and MOT.

All the potential of being something really nice, tempting but I've got some other plans.

I'm not sure that I like the idea of solid mounting the engine to the chassis.

Even with a V8 it'll be a bit of a shaker and noisy too.

Once, in an emergency, I had to fit a solid engine steady to my Mini Marcos racer and it was like sitting inside the gearbox kitself. The racket was unbelievable.

I realise that a tubular frame will not amplify like a bodyshell but even so I bet you notice it.

Tigger - November 28, 2009 01:05 PM (GMT)
Mine is solid mounted and braced through the gearbox, i hardly notice it but the type of engine used will make a big difference. Having said that the Rover V8 is a very smooth engine, it will probably be fine

Mine is solid mounted too, it seems that's just how they're suppose to be. As tigger said, the Rover V8 especially the EFI is really smooth, I used to have one in my SD1 VDP, if it wasn't for the fact they look so dated now I'd buy another one tomorrow! Given the range of sensible priced engines options available for a Fug it'd be my first choice. The Alfa is is excellent, Subaru is getting cheaper and a Rover 220 turbo costs buttons for it's power. Using the 2ltr Fiat/Lancia engine that's in mine wouldn't even have crossed my mind, but it really shifts and sounds amazing so it's a contender.

Hmmm, that one was up on ebay early summer last year as I just missed out on it (it was in much the same state as it is now) and if memory serves correctly it went for close to £1600. If the reserve is near to that then that is a good price.
If your budget fits dragonrider I'd say it is a good bet and could easily be on the road for summer fun.

mines got a v8 and i put fuel injection on as well, goes like stink no matter what gear your in, bags of tourque. Seen it before on ebay as well. Have a bid if its your thing, you cant go wrong.

dragonrider - November 29, 2009 07:11 PM (GMT)
if i was to write down a list of bits that one ticks every box except for the v8, if it was up and running i might have been tempted but it needs a complete wiring loom, clocks oil pressure, temp etc, plus plumbing.... i wouldnt know where to start

ZedOne - November 30, 2009 12:12 AM (GMT)
Looks like the seller ended it early anyway.

Hello Everyone,
This is my first posting and I have been waitng a long time to be able to send it. As you can tell from my user name I wanted a sandrail and have done for as long as I can remember.
This afternoon I finally collected my own sandrail (A fair run from Bristol to Cheshire)!!!
I was really taken with the V8 Fugitive listed on Ebay late last year but thought all was lost when the auction was ended early.
It took a few weeks to track it down but after several messages and a trip to view/negotiate I now have the sandrail tucked up in my garage
It is exactly what I wanted "a project" and I will keep you posted on progress

The only thing left for me to consider now is whether I have to change my name!

Paul

iwantasandrail - January 18, 2010 09:42 PM (GMT)
Yes, it is the orange one listed on ebay Nov/Dec last year. Will list photos as I start to make some progress, so far all I have managed is to start cutting off unwanted parts with an angle grinder!!

Knighty - January 19, 2010 09:34 PM (GMT)
well done fella! keep us posted on the progress, I'm sure MattD will be hot on your case with his V8 Fug2.....he certainly set the bar very high with that build, but thats not to say you have to build a shiny one.....mine is a bit tatty and gets driven accordingly!

MrMunster - March 27, 2010 06:43 PM (GMT)
Welcome to the fold Paul :D Projects are fun but can take time, got mine in 2004 and still not finished yet!! :o Tiz very shiny tho
