I'd have definatly bought that if I didn't have one already. Put a grands worth of engine in and you'd have a really nice thing at sensible money. Love the seats and wheels too. I'm not going to look at it anymore or I'll finish up buying it as well, don't even use the one I've got.

I know!
Looking at my far from finished lump in the corner of our business unit and knowing I have spent close to that on parts sends a shiver down me! :( It is a real bargain - wonder if I should build up the 1641 I've got in bits and pop it in there.....
No I must stop! Don't even know why i was searching for Fugitives on ebay in the first place!! :D

Personal view :

I don't think insurance is the problem. You've told them it's a UVA Fugitive, they can see it's a UVA Fugitive and they'll have risk assessed it based on that.

Problems centre more around MOT/DVLA. Essentially if it was still down as a VW Beetle the MOT inspector could rightly refuse to MOT as it obviously isn't one - that would then lead to the IVA (SVA) replacement being needed before it could be road legal.

This one seems to be down as VW/Buggy/Convertible. I'd suggest this is a grey area but far better than VW Beetle. It has at some stage been notified to the DVLA that the vehicle has been changed and they've issued new paperwork. To Mr. MOT it is a buggy on paperwork and in front of him.

When I got mine it was down as VW/2 axle rigid body convertible. When SVA came in they had an amnesty and I got it switched to VW/UVA KitCar after about a year of grief!!!

Must agree, VW buggy sounds a lot better than VW beetle. However you are not technically insured if you have a Fugitive with VW on the V5. VW buggy, sports or convertible is only ok if it's a beachbuggy type kit using a beetle floorpan. I do believe you'd get away with it though, assuming it was a police check, but probably not if it was involving a claim. Insurance companies can be difficult if you've neglected to tell them you've changed wheels and suspension etc, so it being a totally different car would clearly be a problem. As for having one with a VW beetle V5, it's a ringer, simple as that, illegal to own and drive, and impossible to insure.
Paul, sorry just read your post properly, and yes your absolutly right. However when you said insurance will have based risk on a UVA fugitive, if they request paperwork in event of accident etc and you send in a beetle V5 the whole thing would be void anyway. What you done with yours was a blessing, to get VW/UVA, you're well in the clear, bit dicey on it's original discription though.
