Title: Are they all like this?

Now that I've stripped off all the panels and detachable pieces I've noticed that the mounting brackets for the front torsion bar tubes are not symmetrical.

If you look at the gaps between the frame brackets and the damper turrets (arrowed) you can see that they are pretty central on the top torsion bar tube but nowhere near symmetrical on the bottom torsion bar tube. The gap on the drivers side is far bigger.

I've had straight edges on the chassis tubes and nothing seems to be bent. Are they all like this?

Well if you look at mine it seems the same. Dont know why but , hopefully it will put your mind at rest.

Hi,
Mattd, yours isn't like it, look again, it took me a few times and a look at your pic to figure what was ment. Really must say again how good your Fug looks though.
Anyway I wouldn't worry too much gtmdriver, these things really were nailed together by UVA, shouldn't think there's two the same  In my opinion it wouldn't hurt to try and line it all up a bit better, I moved quite a few of my bars to get it nicer. Don't put a tape measure or spirit level on one unless you're prepared for a few days grinding and welding.
That said, I love em, and we don't buy kit cars if we want accuracy and build quality, it's fun and novelty with a bit of power thrown in, can't beat it. :D

I agree with 100bob, UVA were not known for their jig accuracy ;)

You can get it better with a bit a mucking about, and I would suggest if you are planneing a street car the better you get it now the less problems you will have later on. You will be surprised what a difference it makes.. :D

I started again with mine at the front and the back, and now it is perfect, but I wanted it to handle as well as possible, horse for courses......

Mine sprung apart about 1cm when I undid the clamps on mine!
so no, they aren't a precision part!

MrMunster - April 15, 2010 10:53 PM (GMT)
Well mine are closer to symmetrical, but not quite, reckon they are all a bit different!

Thank you all for your reassurance.

I'll go find something else to worry about instead.

It shouldn't be too hard to find something else to worry about, they do seem to be riddled with awkward little problems. What always amazes me, is the fact there is so little to them, yet something always seems in the way when you work on any part of it...

not much is the same side for side on mine...going to try and make it look the same..but how many hours in a day etc....just one of the joys of a kit car..
