Title: Screens

Anyone got a half screen fitted. I am just thinking of fitting one to take the blast away mainly from the hands and chest. Is there any tried and tested hight to give me an Idea.

I use a half screen, the trick is to secure it with hinges along the bottom, then its a flyscreen and you don't need wipers etc. Depends a lot on where you take it I know but that's how I understand it....
To hold in position I bought a couple of Bicycle saddle post over centre clamps, these work fine :D

Not hinged, so not sure about the legalities of counting it as a short screen, but have a look at how Knighty's is fitted.
I know his is a full screen, but the tip of using 39mm P-clips is genius. They fit pretty much perfectly round the rails.
Currently they're holding my rad support bracket and number plate in place!!

This is what the IVA says about screens.

It's not written in the clearest language but I think it's saying that if the screen is below line 'C'on the diagram you don't need wipers or demisters.
I reckon just taking this diagram to the MOT station will confuse most inspectors enough to let the car through.

Also looks like putting a bolt in your seat adjuster to stop it moving back very far (for the test) would allow it to be higher than it could otherwise be. :D

Why cant they say if it obscures your vision you must have wipers, if you can see over it you are fine.

I think that's basically the gist of what they're getting at but this is the civil service so plain English is not allowed.

I have said this before many times over the years.......dont put your life at risk - fit a full screen.......I have just had a chip fixed on my volvos windscreen from a golf ball sized stone that hit my screen direct on at about 40mph......if I was in a car without a screen fitted it would have hurt me very badly or much worse......in my fug I have used an 8mm sheet of polycarbonate sheet, which is the stuff police riot shields are made of, failing that look up "site glass" on google and you will find a sea of people who fit laminated glass to excavation/site equipment on building sites........I have been in 2 fugs without windscreens fitted and it was a very unpleasurable experience on both occasions.......my fugs windscreen is very effective and you can easily have a conversation with a passenger at 60mph, as the angle is very shallow and effective at flinging the air over the top.......yes half a screen or no screen may look cool - but its farking dangerous       :o :o :o

My screen is laminated and in an alloy frame. The sides of the frame are made of a channel shaped like a very tall "h" on its side. This means there is a 2cm wide alloy strip down each side that can be screwed to the frame tubes.
Height is just right so that if you wriggle up a bit in the seat you can see over it, you can lean right forward in seat at a T junction to see left and right.
However, when on motorway, so long as you then wriggle well down in the seat (instinctive as you are trying to get your face out of the eye watering airflow), you then look through the glass and your face is out of the airflow and the stone chips too.
Seems to work OK.
