Title: wiper motor identification?

Knighty - June 6, 2010 01:55 PM (GMT)
Hi gents.....a small problem has just got MUCH worse!!!!!.....my wiper arm pivot had sheared the fine ali inner diameter splines in the arm which holds the wiper blade, so not having a clue what car the arm came from, I thought the easiest fix was to drill a hole through the arm and shaft and simply bolt the two parts together with a single M5.....turns out after drilling the hole, the drive shaft is very small OD as there are 3 parts, not 2......sounds a bit complicated, but the net result is the bolt locks the thing solid to the housing!!!....I have also now seriously weakened the drive shaft and I really think it will be a miracle if it survives the MOT......so here gos.....does anyone recognise this part.......strictly speaking I only need the pivot part, but if its not servicable I will obviously need the lot........ is it from a beetle or some other car??........have had a good look all over and cant find any manufacturer markings.....suggestions much appreciated!!!

99% sure it's mini.
Though that probably means that it's the same as all old BL stuff. Probably the same as old Jags to.

Mk1 minis (something like pre 1970 had a grater arc - I would imagine more because they had smaller wiper blades.(not that you're likely to come across them!
The two systems can't be mixed without a lot of work.

steve - I think your right!!!.....just had a look on ebay and there is a load of mini wiper motor and arm pictures which look near identical, althought the motors are going for £50!!!......looks like I should now be able to locate a new pivot and arm for sensible money......thanks very much ;-)

Knighty,

Try Metro stuff or early Rover 100 / 200 as well, will be a lot cheaper than mini but very similar to what you have there...

Think most early stuff was that, more or less. Morris Minor, Mini, MGB etc. Is it not a concideration to go rear wiper motor, single blade and wire so you can stop in in the middle like a touring car, it'd cost about a fiver. I done it on my RS turbo, used original wiper set up, but blanked off drivers side scutttle hole and extended bar about 50mm to make a single full sweep. The kit was about £150 at the time, but they made the silly mistake of showing a picture, so it was easy to copy for pennies.

It's a standard Lucas wiper wheel box.

You can get them from Europa Spares or Car Builder Solutions if you want them new.

The only thin to watch is that there are different numbers of teeth on the internal drive gears and that affects the sweep of the wiper arm.

thanks gents - all sorted now......ebay has come up trumps yet again, looks like the wiper is about 2" longer than mini and morris minor arms, looks like its from a marina!!!......have just bought a new pivot thingy ("wiper wheel box"), turns out thats from a Mk3 mini.......all in looks like im £25 worse off for both......hey ho......but as long as I pass the MOT this saturday it will be worth it as the weather is cracking at the mo!.....the blokes at work are half way through the vertical 6" intake trumpets, looking good so far, pics soon.
