This is the car shown on the members cars section of the site.

Previously owned by a friend of mine and then sold by me to Dom.

Last time I saw it I took it round Wales for a week with no issues.

Only problem - looks like it's registered as a VW :-(

This vehicle is listed on the log book as a VW historical vehicle - convertible

and has a chassis number and matching plate beginning UVA.........

Now whilst still registered as a VW I wonder whether the fact that the owner can claim the DVLA were fully aware that the chassis has been changed carries any weight?

The seller added that in response to some questions I'd raised regarding the V5 details.

So help me out, to avoid any problems with owning a fugitive with regards the DVLA, insurance or indeed anything else what should I be looking for on the V5? Make=UVA and Model=Fugitive?

So far, all the cars I've looked at always seems to have something not quite right on the V5. :-(

What do other Fug owners have on their V5s?

Make UVA, Model FUGITIVE, yes that's exactly right. Slightly vague things like twin axled, ridged body, agricultural etc, are obviously better than VW Beetle, but still not ok. It however wouldn't be the fact of finding I couldn't use the vehicle on the road, or MOT centre finding they couldn't issue a ticket on a wrong description V5 that would worry me though. It'd be a crash or potentially killing someone and then finding I'm not insured because the papers are wrong. There isn't a Fug in the world worth as much as a liable claim.

So Make=UVA Model=Fugitive it is then. Is finding a FUG registered as such like finding a needle in a haystack or do I just need to exercise a little more patience?

Any Fugitive registered before the last 20 yrs will have VW in its title somewhere on the log book. Because at that time, remember, it wasn't a problem. All these issues have come after, and as such I think if you talked to someone at DVA you would have a good case to change the log book retrospectivly without comeback.

Otherwise just about every 'early' registered kit out there would be banned, and that just isn't the case...thankfully :D

But I agree, if you are starting today, you would have a problem

Are my eyes deceiving me? Is this a FUG 2 or a FUG 4?

I had a look in the members gallery section (http://www.avfl84.dsl.pipex.com/members8.htm) and if this indeed is the same car it seems to have a fair bit of space behind the front seats? Enough in fact for another seat....

Am I being a bit simple?

Paul - June 13, 2010 08:46 PM (GMT)

It is a Fug 4.

Used to have lots of space and some electrics in the back when I last used it.

The next owner (Dom) added the ali rear panel complete with baby seat!

Sold for £1,950.00

These things seem to be making more and more money lately. When I was first looking an unregistered would have made half that at best. Guess that can only be a good thing, for us lot anyway.

If I remember well this car was sold on ebay less then a year ago for +/- 1500GBP.

The higher price may also reflect the investment of the previous owner : Recent new fuel sender, plugs, oil, front beam ball joints x 4, recently overhauled brakes front and new drums rear, and new paint.

A negative point imo is that the front fenders were cut. Maybe it looks better but I'm not sure about the consequences when it rains.
