Title: The carb went 'pop' and that was that

Having drunk copious amounts of 70p a pint San Migel and many litres of Sangria whilst being engaged in 'Cafe Life' down on the front at Benidorm……. a sun tan was acquired. It has a reputation for being a right dive, but if you got the right places and do the right things – a good time will be had by all.

Time to go out for a blast in the Yellow Roller Skate with the Gucci shades on. It started and then made a popping fizzing sound and now won't start at all.

There appears to be loads of fuel around the carb and with the air filter off, I can see a stream of fuel running from a pipe just by the butterfly. This is separate from the accelerator fuel pipe to the right of the butterfly. This stream of fuel occurs when the ignition is off.

I've left it for over an hour and still no joy, so it's not flooded.

When turning it over it does make a strange wheezing sound, which goes as soon as you press the accelerator....but it still won't start.

Any ideas greatly received please

Next step - check the electrics. Are you getting a spark?

Sorted - sticking float in the carb fuel reservoir. It was stuck in the open position, thus flooding the carb.

Slightly strange in that the spindle which supports the float only had a grommet on one end, rather than both. Anyway, I've remove this grommet and it now moves freely.

Still runs like a bag of sh1t - so off to German and Swedish to buy plugs, points & stuff.

Steve

junk the points get electronic ignition make sure you dizzy isn't worn out if you must use points as this can cause major grief

Have you change that air filter yet?
If you have. Have you adjusted the fuel mixture etc to take account?

I hope you get it running better.

Bob

I'm off to get some platinium tipped Bosch plugs they last a lot longer 30,000 spark better etc better mpg performance.
