from memory I think its in the footwell area of the passenger side, its probably been hidden under a few layers of paint so look carefully.......did you ever get anywhere sourcing a new frame?......

Fairly certain that when we stripped mine a few years back the VIN was stamped directly into the frame near the rear suspension.
Then again the one I pointed MOT people towards was a strip of stamped aluminium riveted to one of the bars near the drivers seat!

yeah mine appears to be stamped on the drivers side directly above the rear suspension on the horizontal piece of tubing just behind where it meets the vertical tube behind the driver B) ;)

Can everyone who knows where their chassis number is, please post a picture of the position, with some tape over the number for obvious reasons plus to make it visible.
I still haven't found mine yet :(

Won't swear to it (too cold and too early to go poke at the thing in the garage, maybe later!) ... but
I think 2 sorts of number might be being talked about here.
1. UVA Chassis number - These were stamped into the frame itself and I think started with UVA followed by digits. I only found mine when the car was stripped down to the frame a few years back.
2. Beetle chassis number - Usually stamped onto a bit of ali or scrap metal and attached to the frame somewhere (e.g. in footwell, near handbrake, etc) or in Gareth's case into the frame itself. The number starting 11....... is most likely to be the old beetle chassis number.
I'd suspect ;) a lot of Fugs are registered using the Beetle chassis number. They should probably have been registered on the UVA chassis numbers but kit registration was always an odd area, if the complete Beetle Chassis was "used" in building a kit it would have been more likely to have avoided a Q plate.
I know one car I've seen ;) had the UVA number stamped into the frame and the old Beetle VIN stamped onto an ali plate. The registration had the Beetle number on it.

Mine starts SABTVR.
I dont know how it came about but it is correctly registered as a UVA Fugitive.
The number is on a plate welded to the floor tube in the passenger footwell, I put it back there after rebuilding it.
If you know the number then dont worry about where it is, just make up a steel plate and weld it on so it is permanent, it was a kit after all and all are unique so it probably depends on where the builder felt like putting it.

mine was registered in the uk as 1200 beetle sports.
they used teh orig. beetle number. when working on it, I found an number started with uva and some numbers

these are the places I found them. but because I removed the plate on top of steering-shaft. I made an iron strip 1/2inch x 4 or 5 inch. stamped in the registered number an welded it on the frame.
it's simple as that. don't know the rules in uk...
