I have original UVA seats in my Fug 2 and horrible things they are too!
You can buy the identical fibreglass shells from
www.kingfisherkustoms.co.uk, as I've seen them in the shop. I don't know if he does the covers though.
Alternatively,
www.ezbug.co.uk may also still have the original UVA seat moulds?
You could get covers made up by Mel Hubbard at
www.manxbuggies.co.uk, or Bernard Newbury at
www.bernardnewbury.co.uk. Mell Hubbard also does a range of alternative style seat shells :D
Hope this helps.
Rick.

Hi Cal - if you want to take measurements, your welcome to come over to my place and measure my fug-4 "laid-back" seats........ here in Billericay-Essex, I will be in this friday afternoon and all day saturday and sunday.......playing with the fug, as the wifes out on a hen doo, and the nipper is with granny!.....yipeeeee.....bell me on 0787 9427945 for directions
personally I think the UVA "laid-back" seats are great - they are designed to fit perfectley on the ali floor, between the chassis rails - not on top of the chassis rails.......there is a big difference in this - especially for me as I'm 6 foot 2"......if the UVA seats are on the ali floor, the seat wadding aint to thick, and you feel like your sitting "in" the fug........
otherwise people fit Cobreau type seats, which are normally too upright for a fug - fitted on top of the chassis rails, with thick seat wadding, then you feel like your sitting "on" the car, and your head can pop out the top of the fug - not good
look at this link, the UVA items are basically copies of this bugpack seat - I'd go for them if I was you - or something pretty darn similar from a beach buggy type supplier like rick has mentioned.......if kingfisher do a copy go for it, as Bugpack deliveries are a pain in the ass - 16 weeks typical wait time
http://www.volkszone.co.uk/VZi/showthread....hlight=fugitive
Tigger - July 20, 2006 04:39 PM (GMT)
I'd go with that...the laid back seat is designed for the Fug perfectly and everyone that has been in mine have remarked how comfortable they are.
I've channeled my floor so the seats sit on their own subframe 2 inchs lower than the alloy floor meaning I could ditch the 5mm stuff and fit thinner 3mm alloy sheet for less wieght B)
caloun - July 20, 2006 10:11 PM (GMT)
emails sent so I will find out how much
just found a set of new bucket 4 slot seats from Belgium in vinyl for 100 plus shipping
cheers for the invite knighty
I have the nippers as granny is not well :(
5mm floor I though you only need 3 mm ?
did you fit it ? if you did where did you get what was the rough cost
still alot ligther than steel :D
Cal
Knighty - July 21, 2006 07:43 AM (GMT)
for the ali floor I would go for a good grade of hard ali, not the cheap soft stuff.....NS4 is the stuff used on formula ford and formula vee single seater under bellies - 3mm is still way too thick - you only need something like 2mm in NS4 which would be 14 gauge (80 thou).......from previuos purchase it will cost about £100-150 ish.......phone smiths metal supplies - they have an outlet in chelmsford

ali is not lighter than steel - to get the equivalent strength of a steel part from the aluminium part, you need more aluminium - hence the ali part will always be heavier.......therefore you might even want to consider a 16 gauge (1.6mm) steel underbelly - but it will rust - therefore you may as well use stainless - but like NS4 thet will not be cheap either
Tigger - July 21, 2006 01:34 PM (GMT)
Mine was a single seater trails car before I got it and I just assumed that the 5mm plate used on it was the standard bit with the kit
I now have two sections of 3mm (where you might put your feet to get in or out) the rest is 1.5 (16 gauge)
caloun - July 21, 2006 08:45 PM (GMT)
Tigger
that make sense but doesn’t the seat bolt to the floor ?
Cheers for the info Kighty I will be giving them a call.
Southend aluminium quoted £100.00 plus vat for 3mm 8' by 4' unknown spec though
I have just found out that Empi do some lay back fibreglass seats which look similar to the bug pack ones. I have emailed for a price.
Bin 'jammin' - September 4, 2006 01:03 PM (GMT)
Have you had any luck with a price on the seats yet?
As i'm getting my mate who is a fibreglass specialist to take moulds from the two originals we have so that we can make more.
Would be interested to see what the difference in cost is. :)

as of today this is what I have
Big boys toys
http://www.bigboyztoys.co.uk/ have three types
polyprop @ £ 70.00 both layback and upright similiar to Jazz seats
abs @ £70.00
Fibreglass @ £85.00 copies of bugpack seat shipped from USA
covers £35.00 each
All above without covers
http://www.streetstyleandpower.com/publicRouter.cfmstock bugpack £115.00 plus covers
Mel Hubbard www.manxbuggies.co.uk,
said he can make some high backs @60.00 each no covers
www.ezbug.co.uk emailed no respones tel tel 01280 848424
letter sent no reply. I spoke to them as well didn't seem particularly interested as it is only two seats can't blame them. They would have to dust down the moulds etc.

If you are getting some made let me know the cost if the price is right I would be interested.
As a pair of secondhand Cobra Clubmans can be had for £100.00 it seems apricey option
Bin 'jammin' - September 6, 2006 10:54 AM (GMT)
My mate who's the composites expert has quoted £80 per seat for a direct og lay back replica but with new stronger lighter weave and resin with reinforcement in the flex areas to stop fatige break down.
This is what we're going for, having two og laybacks to start with i know just how comfy they are, and not to mention they fit you in to the fug perfectly, with head room, instead of a sittup and beg position.
I don't think cobra clubmans have anywhere near the right shape or fit for a fug IMHO :)
caloun - September 8, 2006 07:25 PM (GMT)
Ok I could be interested in the seats if your mate can bring the price down.
The fibre glass fabricator guy near me has now come back with a price for the mould and a small poduction run. Seats work out at around 65.00 each plus I get the mould as well.
what say you ?
Cal
Bin 'jammin' - September 11, 2006 01:33 PM (GMT)
I will have a word in his shell like, see what he says. ;)

Bin Jamin
tar let us know what he says
Caloun
Bin 'jammin' - September 12, 2006 12:10 PM (GMT)
Spoke to him yesterday and he said that's as low as he can go seeing as there at cost for materials and labour.
He's not using just ordinary fibre glass and resin, so it costs more.
caloun - September 15, 2006 08:24 PM (GMT)
so he is offering no discount for bulk
stange they can make in the USA for $89.00 less than £60.00 hmm
just found a german site that does vw dub bit subtstantialy cheaper than my local vw dub place and the shipping is reasonable if you getting a few things it becomes very worth while

Yeah but Bugpack own the molds and would have run off 1000's over the years so the price would be cheaper. In my experience you can never do a dollar to pound conversion because by the time you pay postage and if your unlucky import duty it usually works out pretty pricey.
Ship one of those Bugpack seats over and I bet the final bill works out about £120 per seat.
The German place could be of interest though. :)
caloun - September 16, 2006 12:39 AM (GMT)
Agent Orange agree
1 dollar= 1 pound when you ship fromthe states.
Fortune has smiled on me today as I found out the Lady I work with visit her sister in the states 2-3 times a year . I just need to sweet talk her into picking up a few essentials for my buggy :D
Do you think customs would notice seats ?
I don't know what the duty limits are hmm

Looks like we might all be giving you some seat orders then Cal at £65 each you've come up with the best price.
Where abouts are you based, to come and collect when they're ready? ;)
rutger - September 17, 2006 08:24 AM (GMT)
there's a company here in holland selling the layback-seats.
this afternoon I'm going to a vw-show where he sell those also. I can ask him for the price of it.

Oh well.
It looks like Caloun's got a few orders coming his way ;) £65 per seat sounds good to me B)
gareth - September 19, 2006 08:35 PM (GMT)
have i missed a pic of the seats?
are they high back or low back? any holes for a 4 or 5 point harness? :D
£65 sounds good if they're what i'm after :D B)
i'm already assuming they're waterproof.....   ;)
caloun - September 19, 2006 09:00 PM (GMT)
One problem is I do need someone to lend a seat (local to me) to take the mould off ?
Otherwise I will purchase one from bugpack which could delay things considerable! :(
Postage is not included in the price.
so you need to factor that into your price?
If your not local to me in soufend (southend) or pickup in person.
Re water proof the same as the original I suppose they recommended using the
covers though.
Anyone handy with a sewing machine as :P

Lowback and like this... They are waterproof as its just fibreglass. You definately need a padded cover though!

You'll need to make covers or buy some and in the US they sell for around $50. With the seat selling for around $70 your looking at $120 plus shipping.
I've just got a quote from
http://www.ups.com/ and assuming the weight of the seat is around 10lbs and the dimensions are 36" x 36" x 24" (I'm guessing here) the quote was $180 for shipping! Admitadly that was with the package arriving within a week but I couldn't seem to select a different shipping option.
As a guide I've had BMX frames shipped from the US for around $60 and flight cranks for $30.
Either way it isn't going to be cheap to get the seats over here.
Another option might be to contact
http://www.billybobsbuggyshop.co.uk/ as if he's having rail chassis shipped over it'll be in containers so see about piggy backing on that maybe?
caloun - September 24, 2006 08:28 PM (GMT)
does anyone have a price from biily bob for these seats ?
I presume this will be similiar to what ssf quoted for bugpack seats
Let me know otherwise I will make enquiries?
Bin 'jammin' - September 25, 2006 09:14 AM (GMT)
Cal, where is local to you?
caloun - September 25, 2006 08:44 PM (GMT)

Cal
Bin 'jammin' - September 26, 2006 09:28 AM (GMT)
Doh! not local to me then (Southampton. London 65miles the other way)
caloun - October 6, 2006 07:58 PM (GMT)
Ok I need a seat in a couple of weeks for the buggy man to take a mould anyone loan me one for about a week please ?
otherwise I will have to resort to plan b
Bin 'jammin' - October 7, 2006 10:10 AM (GMT)
Well we have a couple of seats here, i'm sure we could lend you one, but i'm not in your neck of the woods if i remember rightly.
Southampton, well in between Winchester, Southampton and Portsmouth is where they're at.
caloun - October 16, 2006 08:45 PM (GMT)
I will been down in your neck of the woods at half term. As we are going to Portsmouth so may take you up on your kind offer.
Have you had your seats made yet?
The chap that is making them reckons between £50 and £60.00 plus the mould which I get to keep.

caloun - February 21, 2007 03:12 PM (GMT)
er is been along time so did you get your seats made ?
how much in the end ?
steve_vfr - March 10, 2007 08:50 PM (GMT)
I'm thinking of going the Fibreglass/GRP route for my seats.
I assume that conventional buckets will look pretty manky after a couple of months use if I do end up having no windscreen and no side panels.
Can anyone suggest any makes or places to get them?
So far they seem very few and far between and costing £150 each, which seems a lot, for what they are.
Steve
streetfighterfug4 - March 12, 2007 05:23 PM (GMT)
you could try Mach#1 motorsports, got a set of their seats in my '4' and they fit perfectly, currently on e-bay Item number: 150072749894
