Title: fuel tank level gauge identification help please

Knighty - July 29, 2006 06:13 PM (GMT)
Have just removed the level sensor from the fug-4 fuel tank - no surprises why it was being iffy as it was broke in half!.......Its made by VDO and it say 6-24V.......absolutley no signs of a car manufacturers markings - and I had a real good look!......I'm assuming it must be some sort of universal fitment indicator from VDO????........

anyway - does anyone recognise this gizmo as I need to source a new one ASAP - I'm assuming its come from something VW based as thats what UVA specialised in......the plastic part is about 9 inches long, and the float arm is about 6 inches long........let me know what you reckon

yep !!

Thats the universal adjust to fit any size of tank VDO sender unit !!

Phone German and Swedish and buy a post '72 Beetle 1200/1300 (not 1302/1303) sender unit, simply bend the arm until it reads empty on your tank. They are about £12 B)

will the unit from german & swedish fit the 5 bolt pattern that I already have?.....modifying the tank is out of the question at the mo :( ........£12 sounds much better than the £45 that deemon tweeks are quoting!......does it look exactly the same?

Yes it will. I've just checked on my '69 Bug and they are identical.

You will have to bend the arm to suit the new profile of your tank though.

The one you need is '68-'72 Flat screen Beetle 1200/1300 12v 5 bolt fixing.
(Beware the later ones are bayonet fitting)

Just looked in the Merlin catalogue and they are £41 in there so plus the vat and p+p is no better....

I do have one here like yours which I've never used. If you email me your address I'll post it to you?
