Hi All,

This forum has grown hugely over the years, well beyond my expectations, and now seems to have hit a point where a set of forum guidelines would be beneficial. Hopefully compared to many forums these rules aren't hugely restrictive.

A few of these are the standard "legalese" to cover the forum owners from any actions resulting from your posts. Others are designed to ensure the forum remains usable and useful to all and that the great information posted is easy to find.

In addition 2 moderators have been allocated to help run the forums: Knighty and Tigger. Thanks go to both of them for taking on this role.

Guidelines FAQ

Why rules on posting contents :

• The rules on postings are designed to ensure that the content of the forum remains useful and on topic.
• Outside of the "Off Topic Discussion" area one line replies rarely add much to a discussion and make it far more difficult to find the ”good stuff”.

Why a signature image file size limit/ban on animation?

• Some of the animated images can run to around 300k (the biggest I've seen used on this forum has been over 1 meg!). If multiple members posting in a topic used this size image then a new user hitting that topic will have a huge page download, not a nice introduction to the forums!
• Some users will still view these forums over a dial-up connection.
• Animated images make it harder to view these forums from work, both due to the large file size and the movement.

Why a signature image dimension limit?

• Tall images make it hard to scroll down the page, particularly for those using Laptops or PDA style devices.
• The images can end up taking up more page space than any content to which they're attached.
