Title: painting the frame
Description: like it says dudes!!!

ok! been moving a lot of stuff around the farm recently and i've noticed that the paint i've so far put on the frame seems susceptible to scratching so i'm looking for a bit of advice on alternatives.....
ideally i'd like to get it powder coated but having recently lost my job funds are a bit tight at the mo until something else crops up and i'd like to get it painted before the new year.......so does anyone have any opinions on hammerite? will it rust proof it for at least a year? will it resist stone chips at all? should i apply more than one coat? etc etc.....
finish isn't that important as i'm going for a German army style WW2 look anyway but any advice be gratefully received :D
cheers guys

Naaaah, you don't wanna do it like that! you wanna use POR 15 and then Tie cote primer and then any paint you like :D

just one more thing to clear up.....tie cote primer is a barrier primer yeah? to stop any reaction with the POR 15......

Don't know why it is that hammerite really doesn't like tubes! All I was going to do was red oxide and some decent paint. I've not done much paint on it,only to stop the bits rusting that were welded or bare metal so I'll have a go with POR 15. Never actually heard of it to be honest. Do think it's worth getting the grinding marks out with a sanding disc first, just gives it a sharper look. Might sub some of the work on mine out soon,it's taking too long and I'm going to be too old to drive it soon. Wanted some powerizers recently but admitted I was finally past it for that sort of stuff now.

all i know is that POR15 is the dogs for rust proofing the bottom of old vans :D ;)
tough as old boots (just don't get it in your hair   )
don't know why i didn't think of it earlier

Yep it's specially for por 15 type paint that wont allow anything to stick to it very well.
Once you've done a few coats of por 15 give it a light "keying" then the tie cote primer, then you can have a light rub and paint.
If you do it properly according to the tin, it should be pretty bomb proof. B)
