Does anyone know where I could get some short lengths of 38mm steel tube to make some alterations to the frame on my Fug? I only need 4 lengths 300mm long and the only size available from my local steel stockholder is 42mm. Apparently they stopped making 38mm some time ago.

try Merlin motorsport at castle coombe........google them, and you will soon find em.......they deal in just this sort of thing.......I have bought a couple of 1m lengths af varying tube sizes.

1 1/2 inch is pretty common, I got most of the steel I used form a scrap metal place.
Whenever they get lengths of steel in, they stick it on racks. It cost's about 1/3 the price of "new" stock to.

I probably have that much left over.

I bough a 5m length of 38mm when I done the back of my buggy,that was the shortest I could buy as the steel place I use didn't stock it so ordered it in. That said I'm sure it was only around £20 and they dropped it off for me.

I've had a look, I have a length of 119 cm!
It is 12 gauge - 2.6mm thick wall.
I can weigh it tomorrow and find out about the postage if you like.
I'm surprised you're having trouble getting it.

To be honest, I just never get the chance to "browse" a scrapyard or visit a steel stockholder (not that there are many in this neck of the woods). I tend to have to buy everything off the 'net. I must think about retiring!!
