hi there, can some one tell me which gearbox i need for my 2lr type4 lump.
i would like a 5 speed, but they seem too expensive. so a four speed will do, but which? it must be irs and mount into my fug2

hi daniel,

with a beetle box, you need a 1700/1800flywheel (210/215mm plate)

or bus box with your stock 228mm flywheel.

5speed ---> porsche 901 box.. $$$


but best is to use the beetle-boxes.. can handle the standard 2ltr power easy !!


I'm driving a 901 gearbox in my buggy (2,4ltr type4)
slow shifting and the problems of your "hokeystick" going under your reartorsionbeam... so not good for offroad. but can take a lot of violence.. :lol:
