Title: photos of the build
mattd - May 16, 2007 07:21 PM (GMT)
Been fairly busy on the fug, some photos of what ive been up to.
had to make up a rear frame to support engine.
http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z293/la...30/DSCF0341.jpgI also made a centre consol to house the battery and fuse box. eventually this will hide all the wiring. i am making a channel to run under the floor to house all pipes and wires.

http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z293/la...30/DSCF0527.jpgThere is still a long way to go, but most of the fabrication is done. The next task is to finish the loom and install it. then plumb everything up, gat a fuel tank and see if it will run.

VERY GOOD,ESPECIALLY LIKE THE REAR FRAME,LOOKS LIKE IT IS DETACHABLE FROM THE REAR OF THE SIDE TUBES-SWEET

Really can't beat a V8,I've had them in a few things in the past. The sound is enough for me not to mention the power. Bonus with that engine is the additional weight of the extra bars will make no difference to performance but will hold the whole thing together better. When my present one is done, assuming I like it I'm going to buy a frame and log book and start again. I'm only likely to get mine up to 150bhp from mine before spending serious money,I could buy a Corvette engine for less.
You've got the nicest Fug I've seen, don't know if I'm inspired or I'm going out to the garage to kick mine. ;) I'm going to step up the fabfrication on it either way. I'll be interested to see how you do your mud guards though,I may just copy you. :D

well thank you for the comments. I also love the v8 and have built a few bob tail rangies so are well use to them. Bit worried about weight distribution in the fug. I plan to have the fuel tank in the front. I also plan to cut several 10mm thick steel triangles to place in the foremost triangle and cover with chequer plate to hide them. At the moment i can quite easily pick the front up. And with a 165bhp efi lump i think i may encounter several problems on the handling. Talking of mudgaurds i dont plan to have any bodywork so i may not have any, if i do they will be as small as i can get away with. :D

I bought a fibreglass body including mudguards for mine but doubt if I'll use it. I'll probably just use the bonnet, I like that look. Having been in things like Westfields (although dissapointing) I really think it'd be quite dangerous to not have any mudguards, the stones really do fly about.

Looks a nice job B)
Providing you get as many as the heavier things up front like the battery and fuel tank handling will not be a problem. Because there is so much chassis in front of you when you sit in it you will actually be surprised how just un-rear wieght bias the fug is. My C of G is 18 inchs forward of the rear torsion housing which is roughly 46 / 54, this is better than a 911 .
The Rover V8 in EFi form is a lovely engine, I fondly remember my old SDi Vitesse :P But more importantly it is not a heavy engine, but very comparable with lesser lumps. The Rover is still a good choice.
I run a 911 lump with 250 bhp in mine (comparable wieght to yours) and can keep up with my mate in his Westfield in the bendy bits and over take whenever I like on the striaghts
So get it on the road and enjoy, you will be amazed how quick it will be, especially with all that lovely torque :P
