Title: on-line radiator source?

Knighty - June 3, 2007 05:27 PM (GMT)
OK - no jokes about waler cooling versus air cooling please  .......just got past the M11 junction on the M25 while going to stonor to meet Tigger today, and had a boil over, fortunatley I always carry a bottle of water, so let it cool down, filled it back up, and drove home at 40mph.......I even got tooted by an OAP towing a caravan!!!!......the cheek of it

anyway, do any of you know of a web-site where i can look at radiator sizes before I buy?....... I'm only looking for a production derived rad, none of this custom ali stuff, as its a bit OTT for my fug.

Don't know that, but if it's any help a Mondeo rad will fit in the back nicely as it's where I thought of putting mine initially but was concerned about air flow. Other bonus is they're cheap, there's thousands of them and the 2ltr has twin fans. They also have a resister that can be bypassed to greatly increase the fan speeds,it was Fords emergency I'm overheating save the engine plan.

OK, I'll take a look, ebay seems to be a good source with many pictures......plenty of air flow around the back......the problem I have is the rad is too small to start with! as long as it reaches down low enough, which mine dosent, there is plenty of air flow.

If you get an idea of dimensions & inlet/outlet locations you require, then pop down to your local friendly independent parts supplier they will have a catalogue(s)with line drawings & dimensions for all popular vehicles, 100s.

just been reccomended this site, just what I was looking for, the trick is to scour ebay for pictures, then look on this site for actual dimensions and prices.

http://www.radiatorsonline.co.uk/

it has radiator drawings with dimensions.......I think I have found the ideal candidate, Mk3 Astra GSI 2.0 16v from 1993 onwards........its the same width (60cm) as my current rad and has nearly the exact same hose spigot positions, but its about 40cm tall........compared to my current 25cm.......its alloy and made with the squashed tubes which is really what I'm looking for, as they have drastically more surface area , therefore more heat rejection properties, than the round tube style of rad that I'm currently running from the 1983 alfa-sud donor!........those 2.0 vaxhall rads could handle over 150+bhp so will do for my alfa boxer.
