Title: Rear mounted radiator

Oh yes, got the 1993 Mk3 2.0L Astra GSI rad delivered yesterday, £30 from Ebay.......the water inlet and outlets are in the absolute perfect positions compared to the alfa-boxer engine and current rad........its 45cm deep, compared to my current 25cm, and its the same width, the plan is to mount it a tad lower so it will scoop up all the air flowing underneath the fug.......also get this........you see those two hex-nuts on the LHS of the radiator, in the side tank.........its only got an internal oil cooler / heat exchanger built in!.......how neat is that B) ........well I think its an oil cooler, cant think what else it would be???

I will update this post as I go, as I dare say paul and some others will be interested in this mod too.......plan is to get it fitted ASAP, as I want it sorted before the hot weather really kicks in

Oil pipe connections will have been for power steering or auto box. :)

tadaaaah B) B) B) .........fitted the new rad today.......fits a treat!.......all I needed was 2 x 1m lengths of 35mm ali-angle, 2 x 1m lengths of 12mm steel box section tube, some 20m x 2mm x 1m lengths of ali strips........4 Pclips with rubber linings, 6 off M5 x 30mm screws, all from B&Q.

as I thought the inlet and outlet positions were in the perfect positions and did not require stupid plumbing routes........

I took it out for a blast on a nice warm day, and it wouldnt go over 60DegC, and I didnt need to put the fan on once..........just got to show how crap my old rad was, and the lack of air it recieved being so high up.......I worked out the difference in cooling surface area between the two, and as I suspected its a massive difference......the alfa has 3500 square cm.....the Astra GSi has 8500 square cm......

as it now reaches down lower its really scooping up all the airflow from underneath the fug.......after looking a tad when I got back its actually too lower than I'd like, so I'm gonna raise it 3cm for peace of mind.......last thing I need now is for a speed hump to wreck it.

now its ready for the engine upgrade to a 1.7......that will warm the water a tad more
