nice B)
do I see it good ? the little bracker on your gearbox, is that for an hydraulic clutch ??
100bob - July 20, 2007 04:38 PM (GMT)
Rutger,
Yes the clutch is hydrolic,It has a Girling 625 master cylinder and is running a Landrover slave. The Girling 625's are pretty good, not too expensive either. I have used them on clutch and the fiddle brakes. Have also changed from a beetle to a Mk1 Golf GTI on the master cylinder. The two cylinders are pretty much the same length now so it looks a lot neater. Also because my fuel tank is wider the master cylinder could not run down the side of it anymore, could not move pedal box as it's a tight fit to get in it as it is.

Is it finished yet?
I'm glad you bought it, I talked with the last owner but it sounded too much work for me to take on. It would have still been sat with a tarp over it if I'd got it.

It's MOT'd and done, I'm going to put a bigger more modern carb on it and still have to do wheel alignment, fortunatly Knighty and Tiggar have told me what it needs to be. It sound great and acceleration is pretty agressive. Would I be stupid enough to take it on if I knew what I do now you ask, in a second would be the answer. :D It's basic, noisy, no wind protection, inpractical, but amazing and that's good enough for me.
I really will post some more pics.

That looks nice :D
My Lancia twin cam ( think its only a 1585cc ) engine has had a 32/36 DGAV carb fitted - think it came off a 2.0 ford pinto. Was leaking a bit so I purchased a service kit for it and I'm just about to leave the house and get that done.

You can tell the engine size by the number of teeth on the cam-belt, a 1600 has 146 and the 2ltr has 148. Think I deserve an anorak for that one :D It's the Pinto carb I shall probably put on mine, not easy to come by now, but are not that expensive new off Ebay.
Rob Reznik - January 15, 2008 08:18 PM (GMT)
Will count the teeth tomorrow - the spare new cam belt that came with it only has 112 teeth so there is something wrong somewhere

em, now I'm not so sure, thought I was. I do know that the 1300 1600 and 2000 jump up at a ratio of 2 teeth per size. I was positive it was that many though. 112 would be pretty short for a twim cam engine, I could easily be wrong I guess. :(

I think your right - my lancia engine has 44 teeth :o so the spare belt is useless and I only have a 1300cc engine :(

Even if it is a 1300 it'll still be pretty quick, a good 50% over a beetle, if they're set up nice they rev through very crisp. Before mine was finished I'd thought about all sorts of upgrades, I'm not happy unless I have a car minimum of 200Bhp ideally much more, so having a little 100 odd Bhp engine was disappointing. That said, I really don't think there'd be any point in having anymore now I've driven it. I think it would actually take some of the fun away to be honest. The Pinto carb you have is what I'm soon to fit to mine, it must be better.

According to my parts supplier the 144 tooth belt could fit a 1.3, 1.6 or 1.8 - so all is not lost yet - I have the engine number now so will do some investigation
Cheers

As much as Beta engines are modern for what they generally deal with, Omicron their number is 01508 570351 is more than clued up. There is also a site called Betaboys, bit of a camp name but loads of knowledge on their forum. ;)
Rob Reznik - January 22, 2008 05:52 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the help - its a 1585cc Beta engine so at least 100 horses to play with :D - on the look out for a manifold to fit a pair of webers B)

Mine's running exactly as it should now, I'd still put twin 40s on it should I find a set, but it really doesn't need them. These little engines do very well even in standard form. I don't want to modify mine too much as it's only going to get used a few time a year, so I don't want to spend half the morning tweeking it after it's sat for months. I have the possibility of a VR6 engine now, typical now mine's actually finisned.
I'm going to do some pics today, I've got to get it out the garage anyway, have another 4x4 to play with, don't realise how much I miss them till I don't have one.
