Title: wiring help needed for 1.7 alfa dizzy

FUGEIAN - I'm hoping you can answer this one.....I have a late 1.7 alfa boxer 8v carbed engine, with hydraulic heads, from a G plate 1989 alfa-sud, the same as yours I think?......the distributor is the type without contacts, its has the bosch electronic system, but still with a vacum advance, there is a 3 pin socket on the side of the distributor, which i think is the spark generator/position sensor......what do each of the 3 wires do, and where do I need to route them to, I obviously have a coil with +ve and -ve terminals too, but I dont have a clue how to link the 3 distributor wires the the coil and ignition feed.

The bosch part number is 1227022031

I have since noticed the pins on the female socket (with the wiring on) are numbered 1, 2 and 3.......1 being closest to the flywheel, and 3 being furthest from the flywheel....... the wire colours I currently have are:-

1 = white
2 = black
3 = green & black

the female connector with the wires on actually has the Ford logo mounded in it so I'm dubious if the wiring I have actually came from an alfa!

Knighty,

I see you've asked on the alfa site as well, did you see the links to the Alfa 33 workshop manual on there?

I've been having a leaf through that recently looking at the wiring for mine. Think it had 2 different manufacturers ignition systems in there.

If you haven't got it/can't find it on their site let me know and I'll get it to you.

Cheers

Paul

Found the link to the manual : http://www.cuoresportivo.pl/__stare33/33_dok.html

Second download on that page, called 33a.zip

Cheers

Paul

Hi Paul, I had a rummage through those and couldnt find anything,it all seems for the injected engines.......I have since been given the info from Ricola on the pistonheads forum, he used the exact same engine in his Ghia conversion.......it gos like this

1 = white = coil negative = closest to flywheel
2 = black = earth
3 = green & black = coil positive = furthest from flywheel

aparrently it took him ages to find too!.......so come on then, hows your engine swap coming along? I have just spent the last 2 weekends tearing mine apart to a short block, de greased it, painted the block, pulleys, all brackets and tin ware with a dab of black hamerite, and its now all going back together. fitted a new water pump while I have the cam belts off as I'm told they are prone to going wrong.

plan it to have it all back together next weekend, possibly slot it into the fug the weekend after - fingers crossed!

be aware of the condition of the jubilee clips holding the hoses together, on the hoses that run accross the top of the block, my engine is only an 89 and they were all falling apart, no way would they have held pressure.......I have binned all the hoses as they looked wafty too......got some nice samco 28mm and 22mm hose, a snip at £65 for two 1m lengths of each delivered :( .......let me know if you need some as I have engough for about 6 engines now.

I'm not planning to take the heads off as it was running well before I bought it, and all the spark plugs look good, plan is to compression test it, and take it for a squirt and work from there
