Title: Spraying after shot blasting
Stairlift bloke - September 6, 2007 06:44 PM (GMT)
I'm going to stick with the rail I bought from Kieron and I'm giong to get it shot blasted.
Bearing in mind I will still be grinding and welding here and there, what is the best thing to do after blasting? just primer? and first coat of chosen colour? are there other treatments I should be looking at?
Tony

Here it is on wheelbarrow power, the wheelbarrow was a last resort but it ended up being a good way of moving it around!

Personally I used a seriously good truck chassis primer,it had all the rust prevention stuff already in it, then left it like that till the finish coat. You won't really get away with that if you use a red oxide or similar. I had to do mine in much the same way you have, it's always been garaged but a lot of time has gone past. I didn't powder coat in the end as it wouldn't be possible to touch it in nicely, or re-paint just a section when it gets scratched. Lets face it,if it's used hard it'll get scratched.

Hi Tony - nice to meet another new member.......when you have it shot blasted, ensure they prime it STRAIGHT AWAY!!!!!!.......otherwise the corrosion process will start again - very quickly.........dont leave it till the next day, as the moisture in the nights air will do its dirty work........most sand blasters can do this for you, just plain old grey primer

Looks good Tony. Hopefully you'll have more spare time than me to finish it. Make sure you put updates up here as would love to see it progress. :)
Cheers
