thought I'd add a few more photos - would be nice to strip it down, sand blast and re-paint but for this year I may just do a bodge 'clean up' job and have abit of fun

Hi Rob,

I can see where Knighty is coming from when he says it could be a Fugitive modified with extra bracing and a roll cage for scorr - and the back end does look like a Fug but these pictures still make me think chenowth...bonnet looks like one of thier items as does the roof panel.

Stupid question time, what is the wheel base of the vehicle? Fug's were 100 inches think I remember that the Chenowths were 90 - not sure but it might help...

cheers! Adrian.

Will measure it and see ( I'm assuming its wheel to wheel )
Also have a small problem with the front brakes - noticed there was no bleed nipple in the back of one of the brake cylinders so took off wheel and hub to investigate

Both sides were the same! - could the brakes have been left out for some other reason to do with sand racing or am I just kidding myself? There is a brake bias valve and also the left/right bias valve for the rear brakes. Does anyone recognise what vehicle/model the back plate is from so that I can get the rest of the bits?

cheers

Rob

All the bits are easily available and they're cheap! that's the good bit. Think they're are only two types of backing plate and that's assuming swing axle and IRS are different. Volksworld, I think it was called where I got mine, look on the net and any mags, even with new drums you won't spend a fortune.

Am I correct in assuming they are beetle brakes? - if so any idea which model?
cheers

Just looked at the pic of the back of your car and it's beetle IRS called the 1303, same as mine. The backing plate also looks the same, only difference is mine has a four stud drum. The front is type 1 beetle as you probably know, so the brake shoes are the same front and back, wheel cylinders are not although they are the same physical size bore is different, you need to put rear cylinders on the front and the fronts on the rear, it balances braking as the front is so light. I haven't done it yet, but a servo wouldn't go miss. We have the same engines too, go well don't they. :D
