Title: 2.9 Cosworth powered FUG4

streetfighterfug4 - February 16, 2008 10:06 PM (GMT)
Hi guy's, well for all of you who saw my Fug4 at Stoneleigh in 2007, it has changed a bit since, well a lot since to be honest :ph43r:

Let me know you opinions of my 2008 version, which is now back on the road after road testing it earlier today,

:o Brilliant job you've done there, congratulations.
So it'll have a bit of "go" with it then?

Are you still tremblin?
Very nice.

Stairlift bloke - February 17, 2008 10:13 AM (GMT)
Very nice, when I see pics of that, it makes me want to chop a foot off the front of mine!

Tigger - February 17, 2008 12:48 PM (GMT)
Very nice...I'm presuming you are fitting mudguards? B)

Knighty - February 18, 2008 09:45 AM (GMT)
Hey Linden, looks the dogs mate, I can really appreciate your attention to detail, I'm sure it took a great deal of time......so have you pulled your first wheelie yet?

those rear LED lights, are they a combined indicator, brake and side light?.....if so where did you get em?.....are they a car item?......or something you have adapted from a motorbike application>

Andy W - February 18, 2008 10:18 AM (GMT)
I bet that shifts, rated at about 190-200bhp those cossie v6s

streetfighterfug4 - February 18, 2008 08:19 PM (GMT)
hi guys, cheers for the comments so far, took it out for another spin earlier, :ph43r: , but taking it a little steady at the moment as bedding the discs in etc.
Knighty; cheers for the comments mate, the rear lights are bike led units, stop tail items and then have additional led bike indicators set behind them so just about visible, not properly wheelied it yet as not sure how much the gearbox will take  but it does go light on the front when under hard acceleration.
think it will be "FUN" when i gather the nerve to try it properly, :ph43r:

P.S. mudgaurds may be fitted but that will depend on the "ROZZERS" attitude towards it when i get pulled over, :)

Knighty - February 18, 2008 09:28 PM (GMT)
I think your gearbox will be ok, as long as you are sensible with it, there was a guy who raced a turbo-fug-2 in the VWDRC a few years back, doing 13 second passes, big wheelies etc......turned out he was using a standard box.....the reason it took the punishment is there is a much reduced torque reaction inside the box due to the greatly reduced vehicle weight - when compared to a fully bodied beetle......so as long as you dont start doing burn-outs and side stepping the clutch, you should be ok......wheelies should be ok, yours will do it very easily as the engine is nice and heavy, and the front is very light.....think you may need a wheelie bar as you could mash the sump......also make sure the oil pressure light dosent come on, otherwise it wont last for long as the oil wont get to the oil-pick-up-pipe ;)

streetfighterfug4 - February 18, 2008 10:07 PM (GMT)
been chatting to a guy up in Stoke who build drag race vdubs and he is keen on making a set of wheelie bars for the Fug,as soon as i can get the car to him, should finish the car off with them on it, ;)
the front has lifted a couple of times, mainly up hill tho to be fair, not launched it off the line yet as been nervous about wrecking the box, On the flat it just starts spinning the wheels in 2nd and 3rd gear, not got it into 4th yet as just been testing things out and not done a big run. :ph43r:

caloun - February 19, 2008 07:58 PM (GMT)
very nice installation

nice engine

don't like ford, but for this time :ph43r:

streetfighterfug4 - February 24, 2008 08:18 PM (GMT)
cheers for the comments so far, ;)

Tigger - February 24, 2008 11:11 PM (GMT)
Would be very interested in how the cossy compares, any idea on your 0-60 times yet..... :P

streetfighterfug4 - February 26, 2008 08:12 PM (GMT)
hi Tigger, not sure what it will do at the moment as every time i throttle it it just smokes the rear tyre's, in 1st, 2nd and 3rd so far
not managed to get it into 4th accelerating yet as keep running out of road on my test route, but will keep everyone informed as soon as i do. from what i have experienced so far in it tho it feels bloomin quick and the torque is truely awesome.
think i will need to wait for some hotter weather to get decent heat in the rear tyre's to see the full potential of the implant engine. :ph43r:

Tigger - February 26, 2008 08:28 PM (GMT)
streetfighterfug4

What width of rubber do you have on the back? You maybe under tyred? I am running 9 x 15 rims at the rear of mine with 255/45/15 tyres and although it will spin if you provoke it, normally (under hardish acceleration in the dry) it will squat down and take off like the proverible.... :P

100bob - February 26, 2008 08:50 PM (GMT)
That's strange, mine probably only runs 100ish bhp and yet it wants to lift the front more than spin the wheels. I'm am assumingly running a higher rolling radius, but that wouldn't account for the easy spinning in 2nd and 3rd. I also don't have the engine as far back and I have the fuel tank in the front.
Any chance of a "film clip", I'm hoping to do one of mine soon, they're going to let me run it down the local airstrip, don't know how keen they actually were, but they have agreed.

Tigger - February 26, 2008 10:09 PM (GMT)
Are the 4's the same length as a 2 ??

That would make a big difference....

streetfighterfug4 - February 26, 2008 10:26 PM (GMT)
running 195/50x15 Toyo T1R's on the front on lowest adjustment on my beam, and 285/50x18 Toyo's on the rear using adjustable's, B)
will see if i can get a video clip done over the weekend if i can get the wife to film as i drive it, and will post it on here and youtube.

:ph43r:

Tigger - February 28, 2008 08:16 PM (GMT)
....just had a thought, like you do <_<

Wot tyre pressures are you running???

100bob - February 28, 2008 08:25 PM (GMT)
Well done Tigger, reckon you've hit that right on the head, hadn't though of that till I just read it. Reckon mine would easy smoke out if I raised the tire pressure, I made an un-educated quess with mine  I done them at what looked right and what drove best, it really does make a massive difference all round.

Tigger - February 28, 2008 09:25 PM (GMT)
Quick trick to find out the perfect tyre pressures for your fug, or anything else for that matter...

Get some chalk or a light coloured crayon and mark up a 2 inch wide band across the thread width, go for a run. check the chalk mark and adjust tyre pressures until band is worn away across full width of thread B)

streetfighterfug4 - February 29, 2008 03:58 PM (GMT)
running 14psi in the fronts and 30psi in the rears, drives great at that apart from the wheel spin all the time, think i may drop it down to 26ish and see what happens :ph43r:

Tigger - February 29, 2008 05:05 PM (GMT)
30 psi is way too much.....I'm running 22 spi in the rears and 15 psi in the fronts using the above proven method ;)

streetfighterfug4 - February 29, 2008 06:53 PM (GMT)
cheers for that mate, will give it a try this weekend, what size rear tyres are you running on yours?

Tigger - February 29, 2008 08:18 PM (GMT)
255/45x15 on 9 inch wide rims :P

streetfighterfug4 - February 29, 2008 09:39 PM (GMT)
bit different gearing to mine then, 285/50x18's running on the rear, been toying with changing them to 30 profile tyres to reduce the rolling radius and get even better acceleration potential and put less stress on the gearbox.

Tigger - February 29, 2008 10:37 PM (GMT)
My gearing will be very different to your's anyway cos I'm not running a Aircooled VW transaxle, I'm using a C2 911 5-speed box in mine.... :)

With the sort of power you're now running in such a light frame I would suggest you need to make your overall gearing as high as possible, otherwise 1st will be nigh on useless, and you will be running out of revs too quickly.... :ph43r:

You are now where I was about 18 months ago where you just need to tweak it to make the most of all that lovely power :D

streetfighterfug4 - March 7, 2008 12:57 PM (GMT)
It's now for sale, :ph43r:

Tigger - March 7, 2008 07:58 PM (GMT)
Ehh-h ?????? :(

streetfighterfug4 - March 7, 2008 09:20 PM (GMT)
I've now put it up for sale on e-bay as i am not sure when i would get to use it, i like to build cars but then get bored to be honest so will let someone else have the pleasure of the car, have too many toys and just passed my bike test and bought an R1, also have a 230bhp rs turbo powered westfield which is brilliant so think this will just sit there gathering dust. I just hope the winning bidder gets the most out of it :)

streetfighterfug4 - March 7, 2008 09:22 PM (GMT)
2.9 COSSIE POWERED FUG4 HUGE SPEC ROAD LEGAL Item number: 160216049402 on Ebay

Knighty - March 8, 2008 09:36 AM (GMT)
but why?......am very surprised

streetfighterfug4 - March 8, 2008 10:20 AM (GMT)
hi mate, just don't think i will ever get to use it properly and there is no-one in this area who has the same interests so it will sit there like a garden ornament. Don't get me wrong, every person who has seen it in the flesh since this transformation loves it, if it doesn't hit the right sort of money i may keep it, but if it does then someone else will own a unique 1 off toy.

Tigger - March 8, 2008 12:46 PM (GMT)
Well its your choice, but I think you are going to sit there on a nice summers evening somewhere with every other Joe in their westy and all the posers on their R1's and the like, thinking I wish I had my fug cos its just as quick and its the only one here..... :D

Stairlift bloke - March 8, 2008 10:22 PM (GMT)
wow, I know alot of time and money has gone into your fug, but I'm impressed on the current bidding with over 5 days to go!

100bob - March 8, 2008 10:25 PM (GMT)
It's difficult to know sometimes, I always felt that driving my Fug would be a disappointment. Especially the lenght of time I'd owned it before the first drive. But I think it's great, I wouldn't want to drive it hundreds of miles in one hit, but I think it's as much fun to drive as any car or bike I've owned. I use the word "fun" as enjoyment, not power, speed, etc. The handling is pretty amazing, I can't see how something that wrong can grip that well. The 2ltr engine gives me as much power as the thing needs in the "off road" form it's in. Pretty positive all round with it at the minute, that said I've never owned anything for long, so it'll probably finish up for sale like everything else does sooner or later. For the next toy try something Hayabusa turbo, I've done the bike route, the turbo cars, the V8's, Busa turbo is somethig else.

streetfighterfug4 - March 9, 2008 12:06 AM (GMT)
keep looking out of my living room window at it and in a way hope no one offers the sort of money i want for it, it is unique and a real head turner, saying that it is rising in price and i could always build another. and maybee even better next time, i have a price in mind that i want to fetch for it, we'll see eh? ;)

Knighty - March 9, 2008 02:04 PM (GMT)
I bet you wont sell it when it actually comes to it......your too attached to it B)

streetfighterfug4 - March 9, 2008 02:17 PM (GMT)
as i have said before i don't really want to sell it but seems a waste to be sat there, if it does not reach the right money i will prob keep it, i just like building cars and putting a "twist" on them", wouldn't be so bad if i had built it for someone as i could then hand over the finished product at the end and still be happy that someone is driving one of my creations, :D
for the right money someone will be driving this one, and never know i may even build another one that blows this one out of the water ;)
