Title: Need a UVA Fugitive bonnet
Description: Due to loss in a house fire

Oxwagon - June 18, 2008 08:06 PM (GMT)
My brother is currently restoring a UVA fugitive, and was finally getting there. Unfortunately his flat burned down last night (17-06-08)and he has lost everything that was in the flat including the bonnet which he had inside to apply some decals.

In the greater scheme of things this is probably not that important, but maybe giving him the means to finish his car will give him something positive to look forward to in what is otherwise a very miserable time for him.

Any help with tracking down a bonnet would be much appreciated, Thanks.

Thanks for the picture, now I'm confused.

The car my brother is restoring is a Fugitive 2, and I thought it had more of a nose piece on the front of the bonnet, than I can see on yours.

I was going to play secret squirrel on this one, but I think i shall admit what I am doing and get my brother to look on here and confirm it is the correct item.

Thanks again

hey - thats bad news about your brothers flat .........but hey, least he only lost the bonnet, I'd be gutted to lose my whole fug.......anyway, tell your brother to tell us more about his fug, we need pictures!

hey guys, i'm the brother who lost my bonnet, and everything else come to think of it :(

True i am a member but haven't been on line for a long time, sorry chaps. if you want see pics, check out gallery on page five at the bottom. the pics there are old but i promise to put up some new ones soon :)

If anyone wants to see the fire then look up the EADT site and search "Saling Grove" :o

Finally thanks to my big bro for all his support and help :D

Will stay in touch, promise.

Nasty looking fire that, glad to read that everyone got out OK (Click for the article)

mattd - looks like that bonnet might be either cut down or homemade. Some people chose to make their own, I've seen one bonnet that was made of old street signs! Photo attached of what a UVA one looks like.

At least I'm not going mad then!

Fortunately my brothers Fug was stored in a lock up and not on the premises.

As you can see (thanks for the links Paul) the fire was all consuming, he has lost his flat and absolutely everything in it- nothing is left except the brick walls. As said above the only blessing is that nobody was hurt, I think this is largely due to the fact that it started just after 10.00pm when people were still up and about.

Anyway back to the bonnet: Mattd, if you could post a picture of the nose cone you have, it may well give my brother a workable base. Of course if anyone has an example like the one in Paul's picture, please let me know.

Cheers Guys!

* edited for spelling*

MrMunster - now theres a blast from the past!.......I remember your fug well.....as for the bonnet, I think this is a bit of a dodgy area, the picture Paul has added is from his fug-4, which is a much shorter affair compared to a fug-2 bonnet, and I seem to remember fug-2 bonnets are 2-piece.....well I think they were, as I seem to remember viewing a fug-2 just so.......but I can see in the pics that yours is 1 piece, was it joined together?.....perhaps there were two types produced?

if you get real desperate there is a place called EZ bug ( I think) who have all the original UVA fug-2 moulds, but I'm told they are a tad pricey.

failing that, there is a guy called buggy pete on VZI and a member here, who had a lot of fug-2 body work for sale within the last year or so.

Woo Hoo you remember me :D Yeah slipped into obscurity for a while, never gave up on my fug tho!!! just put him on hold :(

Lots of work has been done on it in the past years, almost finished....til now!! also lost new wiring loom, head lights the new seat and steering wheel. All of that lot can be replaced easily, just the bonnet is a pain

The bonnet I had was a one piece job showing no signs of being conjoined either. As the rest of the body has been re-attatched to the car it would be good to get a straight replacement. Thanks for pointers I'll check em out soon :)

I did manage to grab my laptop on the way out of the flat so have some recentish pics of "eddie" which i'll post soon. obviously got alot of stuff to sort out so please bare with me ;)

hi

there is a guy who has a loads of fugitives and parts but not sure if he will split I will ask

Knighty - June 25, 2008 07:46 AM (GMT)
regarding your headlamps, get yourself a pair of these

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TWIN-CHROME-HEADLAMP...id=p3286.c0.m14

I currently know of about 4 fugs running them, plus many other kit cars, as you will see they are for a bike, but they will pass a car MOT no problem..........but not SVA!........they obviously split into individual lamps, they have an M8 female thread each side, which allows you to make a simple U-bracket, which will give both side-to-side and up-down adjustment.........each lamp is about 4" in diameter, which is a nice size as most kit car headlamps are actually quite big, not to mention bloody expensive. These ones are second hand, but expect to pay £80 when new from Ebay, just search under "bates streetfighter headlamps"

Nice find on the headlights Knighty - depends what they get bid up to now.

I'm currently looking at these ones - seems to be the cheapest supplier of these "Dominator" badged light units. £57.28 delivered for 2 lights with base mount brackets. Last time I saw them at the kit shows they were around £75 a pair without delivery.

They've a few other styles as well including one that looks similar to the above - can't see if they're connected exactly the same though.

Mine came from "Durite" it's a car/plant electrical supplies down our way, but they would have dealers all over the country, their number is 01255 555200. They were literally £30 a pair, they are also mot'able assuming that's a word  but not necessarily SVA due to beam angle. They are more the sort of thing that would be on a farm vehicle than a bike or kit car, they are all metal though, including the grill. Obviously high/low beam and side. I like them, but if I had a road looking Fug I'd have gone for the one's Knighty showed. That said, I've got four of them, price has to come into it somewhere. :(

MrMunster - June 27, 2008 10:44 AM (GMT)
Thanks guys, the old units were cibie oscars and the roof lights (also lost) were also cibie units and i know where i can get them all :)

The main problem is the bonnet, all the other bits I bought recently so just a question off money :( glad I had only bought one seat so far too!!

As I am hoping to show "eddie" when he is finished I may eventually get a new one made by the folks mentioned in an earlier post (EZ Buggies I think). This has all now been delayed somewhat tho!!!

Thanks again for all the help and I promise I won't dissapear for years again :D
