just been looking at my chassis again and after an hour with the tape measure i have come to understand why my f33 felt pissed.....it is pissed!!!
so last night i cut off all of the roof and just left the windscreen bars. i am going to try and get an engineer mate of mine to come and look at it and tell me if it is possible to correct the mistakes without having to cut the whole chassis apart. i like the look of mine now without the huge roof and backend but i hope to make it much stronger around the rear shock mounting area. this is one of the places where mine has split apart...the weld is ok, the tube has let go!!! i guess sandracing was harder on the car than i thought. anyway, i have some pictures on my mobile phone so i just got to sort out how to upload them to my imac.it now looks like a monster lotus 7....
Mine wasn't terrible, but I did have a bit of a twist about with it myself. The uva accuracy was amazingly bad, I wonder if they really had any jigs there. I also re-done a few of the messy welds too. It is worth a bit of time at this stage to make it nicer when it's done.
I too had to start again with a lot of the welds, mine was a kit built by the first owner, and I don't think he had a tape measure.... <_<
mine has torn the tube away on the rear shock mounting points on both sides. glad i was stripping the paint right off as i dont think i would ever have spotted the cracks if not. it was painted with very thick hamerite? paint...at least 5 coats in some places. you can now look on my facebook link. just look in the gallery section and follow the link.
