Now, a couple of questions, in picture 3 & 4 (the grey Fug) youll see that its got extra braces on the rear hoop and brackets for two extra long shocks. This frame is as new and has never been assembled. would these extra's have been a special order from the factory?

They've been dry stored all their lives. The grey one has never been assembled. The other, I dont think has ever been on the road, its painted in some sore of rust preventative paint. So all in all two, 'as new' frames. Ive got a few bits with them too, just need an engine of some sort, or may even think of an AAZ turbo diesel?
Not had any probs posting pics on other forums, so im obviously doing something wrong!

I use photo shop to put up photos but need my son to sort it not too technical minded <_< dave a diesal has to be ideal for off road lots of tourques and no weight :D are you going to go through sva then or stay off road must say sva isnt as bad as people think though still a pain on the a**e
DEVON.DAVE - February 16, 2009 09:21 PM (GMT)
Well I definately want to use it on the road. Im just hoping that somebody will come along and tell me of an easy way! Have you been through an SVA?
Knighty - February 17, 2009 10:17 AM (GMT)
Well done Dave!.......looks like you got yourself a pair of fug-2's there........if you want some advice about SVA - avoid it like the plague, your choices are as follows:
1) "aquire" yourself a set of Q-plates, perhaps from an old kit car on ebay that is being broken up, then stamp the chassis numbers onto your car, Q-plates are great as you dont need an emissions test on the MOT.......yes, a bit dodgy, but your doing it in good faith, and its not like you have stolen anything
2) get yourself a donor beetle VIN and put the plates on your fug, ideally an older one then you can avoid road tax. But I have heard problems with this whereby MOT testers are turning people away as the electronic database says its a beetle, and its now a beach buggy, but I think it depends on how well you get on with your local MOT tester!
but certainly avoid SVA, I have seen a fug that passed SVA and it was a monstrosity as everything needed covering up to the point that it was one ugly mo-fo.

what about getting it registered in guernsey, then "export" it back to the uk..i dont mind doing that. i would have to look into the vat and all the other bullshit first though. i know we export cars to the uk, but i dont know what happens at your end. anybody know?
DEVON.DAVE - February 17, 2009 09:37 PM (GMT)
Thats interesting! Im pretty sure that if you import a german vehicle, as long as you take your German reg document and a current mot , which can be done on the chassis number or Geman reg, to the DVLA its just a case of them issueing a V5. I'll find out some more...... ;)
DEVON.DAVE - February 17, 2009 09:55 PM (GMT)
Just had a look at the DVLA site and it would appear that if the vehicle is under 10 years old then it will need an SVA.
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/Buyin...icle/DG_4022583Would the fact that UVA ceased making these over ten years ago mean that if it was registered in Guernsey it would say its over ten years old on their geg document?

guernsey have just changed to the uk style reg. papers. we used to have little log books with the dates etc. no age related plates over here though. i am guessing that you can register it as the same age as the beetle donor car. i have an old mini scamp that was built in 1973 but is classed as 1965 i think. they just changed the chassis no. and body style. we have no MOT over here....lol. we can get away with most things on this island.

Not wanting to stick my nose in, but isn't car ringing a little touchy subject to discuss on a public forum. To add to that in regards to being some positive help, as much as some Fugs are registered as beetles and it all works fine with VOSA, at least at the minute, it's not ok. Reckon any V5 that said anything on it that wasn't a beetle, including convertible, which is only ok for beach buggies etc. If the V5 obtained was a little vague or kit car centered it would probably do nicely. Who really knows or cares what a Fug exactly looks like other than us lot anyway.

not car ringing as such, just getting the thing registered in the first place...lol..i have to do the same with mine soon anyway. another one wont be a problem. as we have no mot or any other testing for any type of vehicle i thought it might be easier just to register it over here and then import it back to england. i will know more when i get around to getting some papers for mine.
To Register a vehicle in Guernsey the following criteria has to be met:
* The vehicle must be in Guernsey.
* The vehicle must have been declared at, and cleared through, Guernsey Customs
* The vehicle must be primarily for circulation on the roads of Guernsey.
* The registered owner of the vehicle must be a resident of Guernsey
* You must have your vehicle weighed in Guernsey, at the Public Weighbridge at British Fuels Ltd, or at Ronez Limited, situated at Le Hure Mare, Vale (unless your vehicle is new and registered by a local franchise agent).
TITS! you have to get the car weighed over here....never mind, it was just an idea.

your completley right - its a touchy subjetc, but like I said, your doing it in good faith and its not like anything has been stolen........yup, I'd be very surprised if an MOT tester could tell the difference between X and Y kit car manufacturers.
