Title: alfa 1.7 boxer service manual .pdf
Knighty - March 8, 2009 08:17 AM (GMT)
Paul - a while back you posted a link to a .pdf service manual for the 1.7 alfa engine.......but now i cant seem to find it.......my engine has a bad tapping noise which I'm lead to believe is a worn camshaft. I need to know what the standard cam measurements are supposed to be

Knighty,
The manual came from this page which has a few Alfa manuals :
http://www.cuoresportivo.pl/__stare33/33_dok.htmlThe page is in Polish but I'm certain the one I had before is a33.zip
p.s. Meant to post before - Many thanks for the exhaust the other day, had a quick trial fit of it but as usual life's got in the way!
Cheers
Paul.

cheers Paul - while I have your attention......how will you be supplying fuel to your carbs?? using the alfa pump or an electric pump?.....I have been using an electric pump which has been fine, but I have a bad ticking noise which I'm unsure is the electric pump clacking away, or the cams, so I have re-comissioned the mechanical pump for a quick test this weekend.......failing that I will be installing the cams from my £5 ebay engine!
please tell me your going to bring the fug to Stoneleigh :D ????

Hi Knighty,
I've used one of these electric pumps :
http://www.temple-tuning.co.uk/facet-posi-...0bhp-2225-p.aspThey are a lot quieter than the older ones - to the level that my mate plans to replace his older cube Facet one with one of these.
The theory on my engine is :
Electric fuel pump mounted about 1/2 way back from the tank to the engine
Pump puts out a max of 4 p.s.i.
Carb float valve in good condition should hold back 7 p.s.i.
Fuel return from carbs blocked off as tank has no return pipe
Will it work? Dunno - but we've had it turning over and nearly firing with no leaks. Once I get some gaskets on that exhaust we can have a better try without p'ing all my neighbours off!

Hi Paul - thanks for the link........if the pump pushes 4psi I would say be very careful........are you running webbers or dellortos?.......I know dellortos will hold back only about 3psi.....any more and you will just blast fuel past the needle float valves and flood the carbs, as its a very sensitive system.........me thinks you really should run a fuel return line, just route it into the fuel cap.......then you can be sure it will work first time. ;)

Dellorto carbs
re fuellines are you saying a T piece off the fuel line an then onto both carbs and then two returns one from each carb and T back to the overflow ?
as I have a flooding problem with electric pump?
what about a regulator and return so the pressure stays constant ?

I'm going by how alfa-romeo did it in the suds and 33's.......which is more of a series approach, feed one carb, then the other, then return back to tank, no T-pieces.......the system you describe sounds more of a parallel approach........if you are using an electric pump, check the feed pressure, if its much more than 3psi, you will probably need either a pressure regulator or a more gentle pump.......just be aware any carbs are quite delecate when it comes to feed pressures, they are all generally quite low........go too high and you will flood it easy
