Title: Advice on Fug 2 I have viewed

Howdy all, my eternal search goes on... Saw one at the weekend. All complete, good V5, but its been sat around for ages by the looks of it. There is alot of rust on the chassis under the paint and would need a full strip down, but not sure if water has got into the tubes? How thick are the chassis tubes and are they ok to take a little rust, can rub down, and get painted but concerned that it will be a pointless exercise. Also, the sterring column was fitted and they have cut the cross member just in front of the front beam to allow clearance for the steering rod to travel up to the steering wheel, will this cause much structural issues?

It was up for 900, offered 500, has come back with 700, sure i can get it down to 600ish, does this seem a fair price. Egine posibly siezed etc from sitting around.

I must say it looks like its got the ingredients of a good little project car.......corrosion wise, dont be too scared of a little rust......my fug is not too clever in that respect, but nothing as bad as steveVFR's......he had to completley cut out the floor and graft in new tubes, but only because it was fitted with a wooden floor which acted like a sponge and rotted through all floor tubes.......if you get it for 6/800ish I'd say thisa fair money.......generally speaking if the tubes looked good, but with a little surface rust, dont worry about it too much........from the pics above it certainly looks in reasonable nick

I agree its all there and to be fair you'd want to strip / clean anyway to to make sure its right and done up properly B)

Agreed, I could live with that.

Decided against it now, costed out all the probable parts etc i'd need from where its been stood around for so long, plus all the costs of tyres, engine, brakes, shot blasting etc etc just keeps pushing the price way up. :(

Going to hold fast a wait to see what pops up in the future, plus works a little dodgy at moment so nice to have a cash buffer just in case :(

Cheers all for advice etc.

Can understand you're point of view there, it is a lot of expense and a mass of work for something that is worth very little when it's done. That said, it's what these type of cars are all about, mine has cost me so much time and hassle, not to mention money, don't regret any of it though. A drive round in the sunshine every so often really does make it a bargain.

my f33 owes me about £12000 and it still not on the road yet. ;)

lol! If I had saved all the money i have spent on cars through the years i'd be pretty loaded, but as you said, its about the pleasure gained from it all. I had decided to halt my searching and spend some of the money on my van, but today got an email from a guy with a fug which sounds in really good nick. he's going to strip off all the race spec gear on it and the turbo etc (used to drag race it at santa pod, only a 1500 but was running 14 sec 1/4 mile) which i'm not to bothered about at the moment and going to give me a price. So, you never know... maybe hope yet! ;)

Ady, where is that red one....? It's more together than mine and is a 2 which is what I originally wanted! I'd possibly be interested!!!!!

Its off junction 26 of the m1, about a mile off there, between derby and nottingham. Its owned by a trike builder. He's not very forthcoming with info via phone or email, and do check out the rust on the bottom frame rails. Looking at around 700 pounds. He may deliver as well.

Devon Dave, was the green one ok? What price did he ask for, he was unsure of a price yesterday and haven't seen any piccies or price yet.

Sorry Ady, I didn't get to look at it. He did send me pics of it at some drag strip, it looked ok to be honest. It was the same with me, he mentioned that he would alter the engine spec to make the price more keen, but it seemed a bit vague. Could be worth chasing up though......Sorry I deleted the pics about a week ago!
