Title: Fugitive 4 - progress at last!

Well, I say progress at last but it has been that kind of destructive progress that actually makes you feel further away from the end! Why is it it is so easy to completely wreck something by stripping it down and then the putting back together takes an age!!
Managed to spend a fair few hours over the weekend on the 4 after letting my wife know that she was going to be a bit of a fugitive widow for the next few weeks.
Took the side panels and floor off, plus the bodged dash that the guy had made, and removed the engine (though that was only resting on the rear bars, wasn't even bolted to the gearbox!). Removed the gearbox and rear suspension too so that I could get a chance to clean and paint it. Unfortunately the casing on the box was fairly badly corroded so it has been painted too.
Started to strip the paint off the frame. It was a dubious colour of household masonry paint - apparently he wanted the desert camo look on a budget..
Why is it stripping the framework down takes ages! There's always loads more surface area than you first think and after the first half an hour I realised it was going to be a long day. Basically 5 hours with a mixture of nitromors, angle grinder, drill and wire brush netted about a thrid of the frame clean. Oh joy..... Wonder how easily I could mock up Fug4 sized blasting cabinet? Trust me I have thought about it!! Still am in fact. If I got some thick polythene sheeting and a wooden frame I might..........

This week I'll be trying to get some progress on the engine. If anyone has a clockwork dizzy and inlet manifold with a weber carb on for a 2ltr pinto in their garage, give me a call.......... As I said I am having to 'manage my expectations' (another classic management line they spin you!) and in the interest of speed of completion the megasquirt is being given the heave ho for the moment and I'm going for a simple carb and dizzy setup......

There are some piccies here if you are bored!
