Title: Collecting my body panels.

gtmdriver - August 7, 2009 06:09 PM (GMT)
Well I've fitted a pair of roof rails to the Matiz and I'm going down to Bristol this weekend to see my eldest son and to collect the body panels which I won on ebay a few weeks ago. He has been storing them for me since the auction ended. The seller was kind enough to deliver them to him.

The front mudguards will go in the boot but the two side panels and the bonnet will have to go on the roof. I hope I can fasten them securely. It's a long drive back to Newcastle.

I'll see what sort of condition they are in and decide whether they can be repaired or whether to take new moulds from them.

I'll let you all know next week.l

All went well.

We managed to get all the panels onto the new roof rails with a combination of tank tape, bungee hooks and ratchet tie down straps.

It was a noisy drive home but nothing broke or fell off.

The panels are basically in good condition.

There are two areas of structural damage. One is on the bonnet,

The other is on one side panel.

Both of these will repair easily enough.

The most time consuming problem will be the extensive gelcoat cracking which is pretty much all over every panel.

Overall I'm very pleased with what I've got for the money.

I suspect, in the end, that I will end up taking moulds from these to make new panels for my car. We'll see when the time comes though.

That's pretty good then, glad there were no mishaps! Still might need a bonnet as having no luck getting one as yet........

Have fun with your new bits :D
